Cerkno–Labinje–Poče–Gorje–Vrh Ravni–Zakojca–Bukovo–Jesenica–Zakriž–Cerkno
From the centre of Cerkno, head towards Novaki. After about 500 metres, turn left at the signpost for Labinje. There is a 2.5-kilometre climb that rewards you with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Continue along the road through the forest to the village of Poče, which is, among other things, the starting point for the mountain trail to the highest peak in the Cerkljansko region, Porezen. After about 500 metres of descent, keep right at the crossroads. It is a short climb to a crossroads, where you turn right again and you are in the village of Gorje. Continue along the asphalt road for about 2 kilometres, then turn right at the signpost for Zakojca up a slight incline. A forest dirt path leads to the Vrh Ravni pass, which is a popular starting point for Porezen, Kojca and the Otavnik mountain. From here, it is mostly downhill to the village of Zakojca, which is best known for its compatriot, the writer France Bevk. You can find out more about him and his legacy at the Bevk Homestead, where the writer spent his childhood. For those who enjoy delicious local food and drink, a stop at the “Pri Flandru” Tourist Farm is a must.
From here on, given the easy route, it is pure pleasure to ride a bicycle, as you can enjoy beautiful views of the nearby Baška Grapa, the Idrijca valley and the more distant Šebrelje Plateau with the Church of St. John the Baptist in the foreground.
After a few minutes of cycling, you reach the first crossroads, where you turn left towards Cerkno. On the way to Zakriž, we pass through the settlements of Bukovo, Kojca and Jesenica for about 9 kilometres. On reaching Zakriž, immediately after the sign for the village, turn right into the centre of the village. After about 500 metres, turn right again in the direction of Cerkno. It is approximately 2 kilometres downhill back to the starting point.
