Cerkno–Gorje–Zakriž–Jesenica–Bukovo–Bukovski vrh–Police–Reka–Straža–Cerkno
From the Main Square, follow the road towards Idrija and turn right at the first crossroads for Gorje. Cycle past the apartment blocks and the stone walls of the ETA factory, and then through the village of Mostanija. The road starts to climb towards Trebenče, passing under the Church of St. Joyce, which stands above the quarry, past Laznica to the crossroads, where you turn left towards Gorje and Zakriž. After two kilometres of flat terrain, you reach the “Na čičneh” crossroads, where you turn right and continue along the road above the village to the “Vrh križa” saddle, where you turn sharp right at the crossroads in the direction of the villages of Jesenica and Bukovo. Continue through the village of Bukovo to the crossroads for Zakojca and Grahovo. Go downhill for about 1 kilometre towards Grahovo, and at the first crossroads, turn left towards Bukovski vrh. It is a long, winding and steep climb to the scattered village of Bukovski vrh, the northernmost edge of the Šentvid plateau. From the village, you can enjoy views of Porezen and Kojca. Follow the main road leading to the top of the pass.
On the way back, descend for 1 kilometre to Gorski vrh, then turn left at the first crossroads onto the gravel, and start descending past three holiday homes towards the village of Police. A good 2 kilometres of moderately difficult downhill on gravel leads to the village of Police. It rewards you with a charming view of the clustered village, the interesting late Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with its separate bell tower, and the vast plateau with its stunning views across the carefully cultivated meadows stretching out before you. Continue down the winding asphalt road towards the hamlet of Laharn. When you reach the crossroads at the Lutne skale climbing area in the Kazarska grapa Gully, an attractive gorge of river channels, pools and rapids, turn right towards the village of Reka.
Descend into the Idrijca valley and turn left at the crossroads onto the Tolmin–Idrija national road, and continue back to the starting point (Cerkno).
